More about the artist:
Grounded in familiarity with place, René Jansen’s (b. 1962) creative practice arises from a lifelong interest in the ecology of landscape. Through regular, solitary exploration, close attentiveness to seemingly unremarkable configurations in nature reflects an appreciation of the intrinsic beauty to be found in modest, elemental relationships that make up the wider complex connections of the natural world.
Originally from Den Bosch, in the Netherlands, for the last eight years Jansen has divided his time between there and the Outer Hebrides, before moving permanently to North Uist in December 2015. With a background in analogue darkroom photography, Jansen has worked primarily with digital technology for the last twenty years. In 2012 his work was selected to represent the Hebrides in ‘Images of Rural Europe’, exhibited throughout Scotland and at the European Commission Headquarters in Brussels.
